I've known it deep down for years. I've tried to blame it on the moon, the pillow, stress, my husband's snoring, but I am now ready to admit that I am a total and complete insomniac. It goes in cycles. I have a few rough nights, and then it affects my schedule, and I cant get back on track. Take this week... My friend Sunny came over on Monday for a sleepover. We ate way too much sugar, and I didn't go to sleep until about 1:30 or 2am. I was awake at 6.
I tried to go to bed early the next night, but I couldn't turn off my brain. I was awake again until 2, and was in and out for a few hours until I finally just got up. This continued throughout the week until Saturday! I'm sorry people, but 3-4 hours of sleep a night is not enough! Anyway, take a full week on this whacked out schedule, and add a stressful situation with an extended family member, and what do you get? Let's just say that Saturday night, I never went to sleep! I skipped church (total bummer as I've already missed once this month with the stomach bug, and our high schoolers were leading worship this week), and laid down for about two hours. I made it throught the rest of the day and through Oasis practice. I thought for sure last night I would crash hard, but I didn't. I couldn't fall asleep until 1am, and woke up just before 6.
Along with this confession comes the realization that I might need to see a doctor about this. I hear they've got some good, non-addictive, sleep medications out there that don't make you feel too fuzzy, and that you can take temporarily. I'm SO there. I want to feel like those commercials where a lovely woman in an exquisite night gown (I'll have to get me one of those) is visited by a beautiful butterfly that sends her into such a wonderful sleep that the covers are completely undisturbed. After sleeping for 9 uninterrupted hours, she wakes up to a wonderful day.. nourished, rejuvenated and ready to take on the world.. Maybe that's a little unrealistic, but that's what I'm shooting for. Do any of you have insomnia? Are there any home remedies you can recommend, because I think I've tried them all...
